Northeast Texas Trail
The Northeast Texas Trail (NETT) is a rail-to-trail hiking route in northeast Texas spanning about 130 miles from Farmersville to New Boston, with multiple segment “legs” that add up to the full corridor across 19 rural towns in seven counties.
Route character varies by segment. Some portions are paved or concreted for long stretches, while other legs run over crushed stone, dirt, and gravel as the corridor leaves developed areas and transitions into more rural footing.
A commonly used way to plan the hike is by the named town-to-town legs: Farmersville to Merit (5 miles), Merit to Celeste (7.7 miles), Celeste to Wolfe City (8.7 miles), Wolfe City to Ladonia (8.6 miles), and Ladonia to Pecan Gap (5.8 miles).
Other legs continue east: Pecan Gap to Ben Franklin (5.4 miles), Ben Franklin to Roxton (5.6 miles), and Roxton to Paris (14.4 miles), with the corridor continuing past Paris toward Reno and onward to the eastern terminus near New Boston.
For logistics, the trail is managed as a corridor with multiple entrance points across the region. The route is supported by the NorthEast Texas Trail Coalition, which provides trail maps and updated guidance for starting points and changing conditions.
Difficulty is rated easy for the long-distance route as a whole, reflecting the corridor-style alignment rather than steep, technical terrain; expect the main variation to come from surface type and the long day-to-day mileage of a point-to-point hike.
