Northeast Texas Trail

The Northeast Texas Trail (NETT) is a long-distance, rail-to-trail route built for walking and other non-motorized travel across rural Northeast Texas. Its published length is about 130 miles, with eastern and western endpoints at New Boston and Farmersville, respectively, and it threads through 19 towns across seven counties.

Route character is corridor-based: the trail follows old railroad rights-of-way, using a mix of surfaces depending on segment—commonly asphalt/concrete in the most developed stretches, and crushed stone, dirt, gravel, and grass in more remote sections. Expect the surface to transition multiple times over the full point-to-point trip.

Long-distance planning is organized by named segments that run from Farmersville eastward. The first chunk runs Farmersville to Merit (about 5 miles), then continues Merit to Celeste (about 7.7 miles), Celeste to Wolfe City (about 8.7 miles), and Wolfe City to Ladonia (about 8.6 miles).

From there it keeps stepping through small towns: Ladonia to Pecan Gap (about 5.8 miles), Pecan Gap to Ben Franklin (about 5.4 miles), and Ben Franklin to Roxton (about 5.6 miles). Mid-route, Roxton to Paris is a longer stretch at about 14.4 miles, reaching the commonly treated halfway point at Paris.

The remainder continues Paris to Reno (about 5.94 miles) and Reno to Blossom (about 4.7 miles), then Blossom to Detroit (about 6.6 miles). Later segments include Detroit to Bagwell (about 6.6 miles) and onward through additional towns toward New Boston.

Management and trip logistics are handled through the NorthEast Texas Trail Coalition, with trip planning resources and a visitor guide that lists entrance points and segment maps. The trail also uses a continuing construction/clearing model typical of rail-trail conversions, so segment status and alignments can change over time.
