NRC Gully

Classic Rogers Pass slide path in Glacier National Park, BC. NRC Gully sits just south of Macdonald West Shoulder, funnelling into a tight gully with an overhead alpine bowl below NRC Col. Lower down, sparse trees and old trim lines define the path. Expect a true terrain trap with overhead hazard the whole way.

Once parked at NRC/Mortar lot, skin from the parking directly toward the path. Most parties gain the gully’s margin or adjacent rib rather than the gut, then choose safe islands to regroup. The run returns you close to the highway—manage spacing and don’t stop in the middle of the path.

Hazards: frequent wind slabs at the pass, cross-loading, and exposure to other parties above. The bowl overhead can run big; treat the entire descent as consequential. Best on stable, cold periods after storms with manageable hazard; avoid solar crusts and warm snow. This area operates under Parks Canada’s Winter Permit System—confirm West Rogers Restricted Areas and NRC parking status are open, carry your Winter Permit, and obey closures.
