Nugget Creek Cabin
Nugget Creek Cabin is a backcountry hut managed by Alaska State Parks in the Chena River State Recreation Area, used as a rustic overnight base in a remote setting. It has four wooden bunks (sleeps four), a wood stove, a table and chairs, and a wood stove setup that requires renters to bring their own firewood, bedding, and water.
Reservations are handled through the Reserve America booking system, with a stay limit of 5 nights per month. Summer access is via the Mastodon Trail (non-motorized); winter access is via the South Fork Winter Trail. The nightly fee is $45 for the cabin.
For fire and cooking, plan on using the wood stove: bring appropriate bedding and water, and bring firewood (only dead and down wood is typically used in state park cabins). State park cabin rules also require a permit for use of a public use cabin, and cabin users are responsible for leaving the cabin clean and removing all food and trash when departing.
