Old Manson Hut (Historic)

Old Manson Hut (Historic) is a DOC backcountry hut in Kaweka Forest Park (Hawke’s Bay), built in the late 1940s as a musterers’ hut and conserved in 1995. It’s a small, basic stay set beside the Tapahiwhenua Stream, and it uses split-slab construction (possibly beech) with a malthoid roof, set into the hillside for shelter.

Facilities include an open fire and toilet facilities (pit latrine). The hut is first-come, first-served with 8 bunk beds; basic heating is by fire, so plan on carrying the means to manage cooking and warmth.
