Parker Ridge Trail

Parker Ridge Trail is a short day hike in Banff National Park along the Icefields Parkway, climbing from the roadside into the alpine for close-range glacier views.

Route distance is about 5.04 km total (roughly a 6.4 km out-and-back on common reference routes). Expect a moderately uphill effort over a forested start that transitions to an open ridge.

The climb begins with a steady series of switchbacks up a forested slope. Once on the ridge, the walking becomes more exposed and can be rocky and narrow, with steep drop-offs in places.

The payoff is the Saskatchewan Glacier: multiple ridge viewpoints provide long sightlines down the glacier and surrounding icefield country.

A common turnaround is the point marked as the “end of trail” along the ridge; from there, the return is quicker because the route back is mostly downhill.

Timing matters. The usual hiking window runs from mid-July through October; deeper snow and ice can persist outside that range, especially on early-season visits.
