Paso de las Nubes
Paso de las Nubes (Sendero Paso de las Nubes) is a multi-day traverse in Nahuel Huapi National Park near Bariloche, with a typical through-hike length around 23 km.
Most itineraries run 2 days of hiking (about 4–6 hours per day) and use refuges rather than camping along the route.
Route logic is usually built around the pass area in the Mount Tronador zone: start at Pampa Linda (access from Bariloche), cross high terrain, and finish by descending toward Lake Frías with lake transport back toward Bariloche.
The key terrain feature is a glacier crossing associated with the Alerce Glacier area below Tronador, done with glacier gear such as crampons and rope systems; expect a high-mountain environment with steep, exposed descent sections near the pass.
The high point at Paso de las Nubes is listed around 1,335 m, with a summit-to-valley feel as the itinerary transitions from the pass area down into the Frias valley.
A common overnight plan involves staying at Refugio Agostino Rocca during the traverse; booking the overnight in advance is typically required for this itinerary style.
Park access is handled through the Nahuel Huapi National Park system, including trek registration and a park entrance fee; the trek is also subject to seasonal access timing for getting to Pampa Linda.
