Phoenicia Trail

Phoenicia Trail is an easy, long-distance hiking route in the Catskills, tied to the Mount Tremper area and commonly referred to for access to the Tremper Mountain fire tower.

Route length is about 16.41 km (roughly 10.2 miles).

A common way to use the route is as a through connection: the trail climbs to the former state fire tower area on Tremper Mountain, then continues onward along the blue-marked Warner Creek Trail (also associated with “Phoenicia Trail”).

The best-known feature along the Tremper Mountain portion is the restored fire tower, which was used historically by fire observers.

Near the Tremper Mountain fire tower approach, the trail is described as a steady climb that follows an older road/trail alignment and then transitions to descent after the summit area.

Trailhead access commonly uses County Route 40 (Old Route 28), with the trailhead located about 1.5 miles east of the hamlet of Phoenicia, NY.
