Ammuntionsbunker Drengsted (mil. Bunker) The battery in Drengsted was probably equipped with a railway gun like Andholm Battery. It was never mounted, but would probably have been recessed somewhere else in case of a British landing in the north. The installation was never completed as it was allegedly discarded by a general due to its location on flat terrain. For the same reason, the battery's ammunition bunkers were disguised as stables. The battery in Drengsted was subsequently used as a forward air defence position for the airship base in Tønder. Not all batteries could be built into the terrain. In Drengsted, magazines etc. were camouflaged with painted windows the same width as the discharger openings, buckets on the roof for ventilation and even a pipe as a chimney. These effects were designed to make the battery look like factory and breeding buildings. The remains give a special impression. They are the only two ammunition bunkers that are exposed, so you can get an impression of the structure of the ammunition bunkers. Normally, the front of the bunker (to the north) is covered with earth.
