Power Creek Cabin

Power Creek Cabin is a remote backcountry hut in the Chugach National Forest near Cordova. It’s reached by hiking 4.2 miles on Power Creek Trail from the Power Creek Trailhead; the trail is the only access method.

The 12x20-ft cabin has a loft and a covered deck, sleeps up to eight people on wooden bunkbeds without mattresses, and is furnished with a table. Heat comes from an oil stove (runs on #1 stove oil or kerosene) and there’s an outdoor pit toilet plus a rainwater catchment barrel; the cabin has no running water or electricity.

Reservations are required, and use is fee-charged (nightly fee is about $60 via the booking system). Bring your own sleeping bags and pads, cooking gear, matches/lanterns or flashlights, toilet paper and first-aid supplies, plus drinking/cooking water (or plan to treat water from natural sources) and garbage bags; there is no on-site firewood supplied.

A noted access hazard is that the approach trail requires fording a stream created by beaver activity a little less than one mile before the cabin; water can be knee-deep or deeper. Plan for very remote conditions and pack out all food and trash.
