Quinault Loop Trail
Quinault Loop Trail (#854) is a short, easy loop hike in the Olympic National Forest that’s often treated as a “4 mile loop” through temperate rainforest. Expect two distinct moods: about 2.7 miles through dense rain-forest vegetation and about 1.3 miles along the south shore of Quinault Lake.
There isn’t a single designated beginning or end point. You can enter from multiple access points within the Quinault National Recreation Trail System, including the Quinault Rainforest Trailhead and Falls Creek South Shore Trailhead.
Key route highlights along the loop include Cascade Falls, Cedar Bog, and the Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail, which also functions as the interpretive section of the system.
Terrain stays mostly gentle for an easy day hike: mostly flat ground with modest ups and downs, suitable for hikers looking for a low-commitment loop rather than a strenuous outing.
The route is built on a “Standard/Terra Trail” surface, with fine-gravel/soil footing and generally good trail visibility. In a rainforest setting, the ground can be muddy—pace appropriately and be prepared for wet conditions.
Management constraints matter here: motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, and stock are prohibited on the trail. A valid Recreation Pass is required at the Quinault Rain Forest Trailhead.
