Racer Camp Hollow Trail
Racer Camp Hollow Trail (#1036) is an orange-blazed hiking path in the George Washington National Forest near Wardensville, West Virginia. It’s used as a link between longer backpacking and hiking loops in the Great North Mountain area.
As a standalone hike it’s typically a short point-to-point trip (about 1.7 miles), but it’s more often absorbed into loop days in the 9–13 mile range. Expect mostly gentle terrain with occasional steeper sections rather than sustained climbing.
The trail’s character is forested and stream-adjacent, with multiple stream crossings along Racer Camp Hollow. Bring footwear suitable for wet crossings (water shoes or waterproof trail shoes), especially if you’re planning to move through after rains.
Racer Camp Hollow is commonly woven into two high-use loops: the Sugar Knob Loop (combining Racer Camp Hollow with Pond Run and Tuscarora) and a longer Pond Run–Half Moon–Racer Camp Hollow–Wilson Cove loop. If you want to keep time efficient, your plan usually starts by staying on Racer Camp Hollow and then leaving it at the point where the longer loop continues toward nearby lookouts or adjacent trail systems.
