Rain Lake Ranger Cabin
Route Details
Rain Lake Ranger Cabin is a roofed backcountry hut in Algonquin Provincial Park, managed by Ontario Parks. It’s a waterfront log cabin used by people travelling into the park interior, and it’s reached from the Rain Lake access point at the western end of Rain Lake Road.
The cabin has two separate bedrooms (including bunk beds in one bedroom and two single beds in the other) and a screened porch measuring about 10' x 12'. Inside there’s a propane-powered stove plus a fridge, lights, and a heater; it has no dishes, and it does not provide running water, indoor bathrooms, or electricity. Nearby composting toilets are shared with other campers, and Rain Lake has a beach and a boat launch ramp with motor restrictions.
For booking, reservations for the ranger cabins are handled through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service (or by phone), with reservations opening exactly five months in advance at 7:00 a.m. (ET). You also need a valid Algonquin Backcountry Camping Permit per person in your party to stay in the cabin.
The ranger-cabin season runs from the last Friday in April until Thanksgiving. When cabin availability isn’t shown on the calendar, the dates are already booked; switch to earlier or later dates to find an open block.
