Hiking route

Rainforest Trail is a short, loop-style boardwalk hike in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The route is mapped as a figure-eight/loop pairing split into two loops: Loop A (Ocean/West Side) and Loop B (Inland/East Side).

Plan on about 2.21 km total for the full loop, typically taking roughly 30–45 minutes if you move at a steady pace. Expect two distinct short experiences rather than one single out-and-back segment.

The trail runs through an ancient temperate rainforest environment with dense lowland growth and big trees; the route is designed around wooden boardwalk walking, with interpretive signage along the way.

Loop A is accessed across Highway 4 from the main parking area and stays on the west/ocean side; Loop B starts from the parking lot on the east/inland side.

Difficulty is easy: fully elevated boardwalk walking is the core experience, but there are stairs in parts of the loop that add some step-up/step-down.

Wet weather changes the feel of the walk. Boardwalk surfaces can get slick when wet, so choose footwear with solid traction and take extra care on narrow sections when other hikers are passing.

Access and parking are tied to Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. A valid Parks Canada entry pass is required to hike the trail, and parking is via designated roadside pullouts along Highway 4 between Tofino and Ucluelet.
