Rawson Lake Trail

Rawson Lake Trail is a curated day-hike in Alberta’s Peter Lougheed Provincial Park that runs from the Upper Kananaskis Lake area up to Rawson Lake.

Expect a moderate-to-steep mountain climb with a long switchbacked ascent through forested slopes before the route settles down near the lake.

A common approach starts by following the Upper Kananaskis Lake Trail for about 1.1 km, including a crossing of Sarrail Creek and passing Sarrail Falls.

At the junction, the route leaves the Upper Kananaskis Lake Trail and climbs on Rawson Lake Trail toward the top, staying on a sustained incline for much of the ascent.

Near Rawson Lake, the hiking line trends along the southeast shore as the terrain opens up around the subalpine lake setting.

For experienced hikers, there is an additional steeper scramble option continuing beyond the lake area toward Sarrail Ridge.
