Refuge Cap du Salut
Refuge Cap du Salut is an alpine-style backcountry hut on the Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix. The refuge setup includes a wood stove with firewood, an axe and newspaper, a large cauldron, a picnic table, and dry toilets near the refuge; there’s a water point near all refuges except La Grande-Vue (so for Cap du Salut, bring/filter/treat as needed but expect water nearby). The refuge is part of a network of accommodations where some huts can also serve as a daytime stop for hikers who are using the trail network without overnighting at the hut.
Sleeping and reservation use are managed through the Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix reservation system. Refuge Cap du Salut has capacity for 8 people, and online booking includes an “Accès journalier” option for daily access tied to the hut stay. Expect shared use: shelters are shared with other reservations, and some shelters can be accessed by day users.
To sleep at the refuge, plan to bring a floor mattress and sleeping bag, plus a backpack, trail map, walking stick, hiking boots, stove and fuel, matches or lighter, utensils/dishes, a candle, toilet paper, change of clothing, mosquito repellent, a flashlight or headlamp with spare battery, a small repair kit (duct tape and zip ties), rope/thread/twine, a multi-function tool, first aid kit, a water filter or pristine tablets, and enough food for your stay, along with a garbage bag to take all your trash out. Camp/fire rules are strict: it’s strictly forbidden to make fires outside the shelter or campsite; extra charges can apply if you don’t follow the firewood regulations. Dogs are not permitted on long hikes, in mountain huts, at campsites, or for cross-country skiing.
