Refuge de Tubanet
Refuge de Tubanet is a non-guarded backcountry refuge in the Drôme Vercors area, run by the Conseil Général de la Drôme. It provides 22 sleeping spots, with access to the dormitory via an exterior stair that can still be used during heavy snow. The refuge has a stove plus a dedicated wood supply, while the chimney is closed off—plan to use only the provided heating setup.
Inside, sleeping is arranged between levels and on the upper floor on raised wooden plinths, and the building includes dry toilets. It’s equipped with several large fixed picnic-style tables, plus basic tools (a broom and a shovel). Water is not available at the hut itself.
Use is possible year-round. The approach routes include: from the Col de la bataille area, park at the start of the Malatra forest road and continue on level ground for about 30 minutes to the refuge; or from Font d’Urle via the red-and-white marked trail that descends from the pas de l’infernet along GR 93. Coming from the refuge d’Ambel, follow the red marking initially through the forest, then keep to the forest edge in the Ambel plain until you reach one of the portals and a connecting footpath leads to the refuge. Access through the Col de la bataille is prohibited in winter due to strong avalanche risk.
