Regionalmuseum "Goldener Engel"

The cultural centre "Goldener Engel" was opened in 2018. It includes the Baumholder Regional Museum, the city library and the Baumholder municipality tourist information centre. The regional museum illustrates the history of the region, the development of the Baumholder military training area and the more than 60 years of US military post Baumholder. / Embedded in the history of Baumholder, beginning with early history, the time from the arrival of the US military up to today, with many formative influences on the city and its population, is presented primarily in the attic of the Goldener Engel. The Goldener Engel was closely associated with this development as a hotel, bar and vaudeville. When the US Army set up a military garrison on the existing Baumholder military training area in 1951, the 20,000 American soldiers and their families brought the "American Way of Life" to the agricultural town and surrounding communities. / The changes that the many soldiers brought with their foreign way of life thereby greatly influencing the development of the region and the thinking of the German population are illustrated and brought to life. What was observed in later years throughout Germany and Europe took place on a small scale and in fast motion in the Baumholder region: the Americanization of daily life. / This interesting and for the city also wild time in the 50's and 60's can be experienced by different means (texts, pictures, objects of daily life, music, press articles, films etc.) and is the main theme of the exhibition in the attic of the cultural centre "Goldener Engel". / Pfalzcard holders receive free admission to the museum.
