Rhein Lake Cabin
Rhein Lake Cabin is a Nancy Lake State Recreation Area public-use wilderness-style cabin run by the State of Alaska. It’s a log cabin with a loft, built for small groups (minimum occupancy 1; maximum occupancy 8) and limited stays (5 nights).
For access, it’s vehicle-accessible in summer. In winter the Nancy Lake Parkway is gated at Mile 2.2; park at the Winter Trailhead and travel the remaining 3 miles by ski, snowshoe, or dog sled. The cabin is in a non-motorized portion of the recreation area (ATVs, snowmobiles, and floatplanes prohibited), and snowmobiles may be driven only to the cabin, not beyond.
Nightly use is by reservation through Reserve America. The door uses a combination lock; your confirmation provides the access code. Fees are listed on the state park fee schedule, and the cabin fee is $125 for the entire hut (effective starting January 1, 2024). A $5 transaction fee applies to Reserve America bookings.
Inside, the cabin has wood heating (bring your own wood) and includes a porch, table with benches, and wood bunks. Pets are allowed with you responsible for cleanup. Bring everything you need for an overnight stay, including a sleeping setup, food and cookware, a stove and fuel, matches/fire starters, and items for safety and waste removal (the park emphasizes that you should pack out what you pack in).
