It’s a rustic cabin with no running water or electricity, and it’s used for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing in winter. The cabin is set up with bunk beds and a propane cook stove and lantern, plus a wood stove, an outhouse, and a fire extinguisher; it also includes basic tools and a broom and axe/saw. Capacity is for up to 6 people, with a stay limit of 3 consecutive nights and a reservation requirement.

For lodging planning, the site has a fee and a maximum of 3 consecutive nights per stay. Access is easiest via the Steese Highway, with two approach options: (1) in winter only, from the McKay Creek Trailhead at milepost 42, then about 14 miles to its junction with the Nome Creek Road, followed by about 6.5 miles on the Bear Creek Trail to the cabin; or (2) via the Steese Highway to U.S Creek Road at milepost 57, then about 7 miles on U.S Creek Road to the Nome Creek Road, followed by about 11 miles toward the Ophir Creek Campground to the junction with the Bear Creek Trail, then about 6.5 miles on Bear Creek Trail to the cabin.
