Rohn Public Shelter Cabin
Rohn Public Shelter Cabin (also known as Rohn Roadhouse) is a BLM-managed alpine safety cabin set along the Iditarod Trail at the confluence of the South Fork of the Kuskokwim River and the Tatina River. It’s a non-exclusive public safety resource used by Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race participants and other travelers passing through the route corridor in severe winter conditions.
Inside, you’ll find basic sleeping platforms and a wood stove, plus outhouses. Use is first-come, first-served with no reservation process, and there’s no charge to use the cabin. Plan on bringing your own sleeping bag and food and carrying emergency gear—there isn’t a stocked food supply in the cabin.
Because it’s a shared shelter, expect other racers and travelers to use the space too. Keep it tidy: pack out your trash, and the guidance for previous users is to leave split wood and kindling for the next person if you’re able.
