Scamper Torrent Hut

Scamper Torrent Hut is a basic four-bunk DOC hut in the Waitaha River area of New Zealand’s West Coast, used for backcountry overnights in Hokitika District. It sleeps up to four people and has a pit latrine; drinking water is untreated, so plan to treat or filter before use.

Bookings are not required—use is free and access follows first-come, first-served. The hut sits on a route that is no longer maintained by DOC; some access information and intermittent route maintenance are handled sporadically by Permolat.
