Sentier du bisse de Savièse (Torrent-Neuf)
Sentier du bisse de Savièse (Torrent-Neuf) is an out-and-back hiking route in Valais, Switzerland, built around the old irrigation canal (“bisse”) that carries water above the valley.
The hike is around 9.2 km round-trip with roughly 420 m of elevation gain, typically taking about 3 to 3.5 hours at a steady pace.
Route character is defined by cliffside footpaths: the trail runs along sections carved into the rock and crosses over deep voids, with safety fencing along the exposed sections.
A key draw is the series of suspension bridges crossing the Morge river gorge—four bridges in total, including the “Passerelle d'Aven.”
The canal corridor has period-style storytelling along the way, with informational panels and old photos that focus on the engineering behind the water channels.
On-foot experience is often tied to wildlife on steep terrain; chamois are commonly spotted on the rock faces, and golden eagles may be seen overhead.
For planning, plan this as a late-winter to late-autumn outing (best visited March through December) and treat exposure cautiously if you have a fear of heights.
