Sentier du Fjord

Sentier du Fjord is a long-distance point-to-point hike along the Saguenay Fjord in Quebec, Canada, managed in the context of Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay. The through-route is mapped as a moderate hike and is built on gravel-path segments.

Route scale is a multi-day commitment: roughly 41 km, typically done in 3 to 4 days. The route is linear rather than a loop, so planning for an end-to-end move (two vehicles or a pre-arranged shuttle) is part of the logistics.

Terrain follows fjord-side corridors with steep climbs and steep descents when hiking with a backpack. Forested sections are dense boreal in character, and the route repeatedly changes difficulty with sustained uphill and down-corridor footing rather than a single continuous grade.

On the ground, the mapped surface type is gravel. Expect sections where conditions can turn slick—if the ground is wet, put more attention into foot placement, especially on descents and any muddy connectors to refuges.

Typical multi-day camping is tied to named facilities on the route (refuges/shelters). Dispersed camping is not permitted on the multi-day portions, and overnight stays are managed through designated reservations.

The trail operates seasonally: it is described for mid-June through early October, aligning with periods when the refuges are available along the Sentier du Fjord corridor. Longer days are usually needed if you’re aiming to complete the full route in the shortest end of the 3–4 day range.
