Sentier du Pacte des Loups

Sentier du Pacte des Loups is a named long-distance hiking loop in the Baronnies, in the French Pyrenees (Hautes-Pyrénées). The route length is about 9.6–10 km with roughly 500–560 m of ascent, typically done in about 3.5–4 hours (or around 4 hours for the Pla du Moula start).

Start at Pla du Moula (a few kilometers above Esparros) or at the Col de Coupe area; either way it comes back to the start. The loop climbs out of Pla du Moula through forest, then gradually shifts toward more open ridge walking before returning downhill through the woods.

For navigation, rely on the distinctive yellow-and-blue wolf-head blazes. The marking is described as making the loop easy to follow once you have the correct trail junction after Pla du Moula.

Terrain alternates between shaded, wooded sections and brighter ridge/grassland stretches. The higher point called col de l’Oeuil Luzent (1,237 m) sits in the upper part of the loop, with the route following ridge lines around it before dropping back.

A key “cinematic” landmark is the col d’Oeuil Luzent area, where the trail is tied to the Le Pacte des Loups film locations in these landscapes. The loop is also noted for using a loop-in-eight style layout to vary ambiances across the forest and ridges.

On the upper/lateral parts you pass through forest edges and open viewpoints, then re-enter the woods on the way back. The descent sections are repeatedly described as straightforward trail travel compared with the initial climb, bringing you back to Pla du Moula.

Dog policy matters: dogs are reported as forbidden from 1 April to 15 November for safety and to protect grazing and quietness of livestock.
