Sentier National Mauricie
Sentier National Mauricie is a 99.62 km, multi-day hiking route in Mauricie, Quebec. It’s built as a set of linked sections, so you can do it as a full thru-hike or tackle individual tronçons.
The route runs through backcountry with dense boreal forest, with frequent access to water features—lakes and rivers—plus waterfall country along the way.
Overall effort spans from easy to rugged: some sections work as day walks, while others are more demanding and suited to backpacking/overnight hiking.
A complete end-to-end traverse is typically a 3 to 5 day thru-hike. The section approach is also reflected in the published breakdown into multiple manageable parts.
Key connector sections include Tronçon Wabenaki (16.2 km, intermediate) and Tronçon Chute du Diable (11.2 km, intermediate) inside the Mauricie area around Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc.
For Tronçon Roland-Leclerc (10.7 km, intermediate), the trail starts at the stationnement du lac Shawinigan (accessed via Réserve faunique Mastigouche) and ends at Lac en Croix (Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc). Along this tronçon, there’s at least one notable waterfall mid-route and multiple tent/lean-to style shelter options described for the route.
Wilderness camping is supported along the route, including sector camping in places such as Réserve faunique Mastigouche and La Mauricie National Park, with overnight sites tied to the tronçons.
Common logistical planning for the thru-hike centers on stage length and water/shelter access, since you’re carrying camp for the multi-day segments and shelter points are distributed by section.
