Shannon Ridge Trail

Shannon Ridge Trail 742 is a hike in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest accessed from Shannon Ridge Trailhead (open 24 hours/day). The trail is designated for foot travel and is mapped as unpaved path.

The route begins with about 1.5 miles converted from an old logging road, then switchbacks through an old timber harvest area. After roughly 2 miles, conditions deteriorate as it winds steeply up through dense forest.

At about 4,600 feet the trail breaks out onto Shannon Ridge. From there it continues along the open ridge, with campsites available along the ridge.

The route enters North Cascades National Park approximately 0.5 miles up the ridge; for party size and pet restrictions, plan around the North Cascades National Park rules on entry. If you’re attempting to continue toward Mt. Shuksan via the Sulphide Glacier, this trail is used as an approach.

For planning and logistics at the trailhead: Shannon Ridge Trailhead has vault toilets and no potable water on site. A valid recreation pass is required for the day use fee at the trailhead; Washington State Discover Pass is not valid at US fee sites.

Expect a moderate outing built around steep climbing in the forest and a later ridge-travel section. Carry enough water because usable water access along the trail is limited in practice.
