Silver Peak Trail

Silver Peak Trail is a hike in Killarney Provincial Park (Ontario) that climbs to Silver Peak, the park’s highest summit (about 539 m).

The trip is built for water access: there’s no road access to the hiking route itself. Most day-trip planning starts by paddling to a trailhead on Bell Lake or Johnnie Lake before switching to foot travel.

From Bell Lake, the paddle is described as about 3 km to the trailhead area, then the hike to the summit is about 5.5 km one way. From Johnnie Lake, access includes a paddle to a portage into Clearsilver Lake (about 830 m portage mentioned) before the hiking segment to Silver Peak (about 4 km one way).

Route character: the opening of the hike is mostly flat/rolling through wetlands and hardwood forest, before transitioning into a steep, more demanding ascent toward the quartzite ridge.

The climb to the top is singled out as steep and strenuous, with exposed rock that can be slippery; the final section is described as rugged/challenging. Expect a sustained effort rather than a gentle walk-up.

Time commitment is typically treated as a full day. The route guidance recommends allowing enough daylight for the combined paddle plus hike.

This is often approached as a “famous hike” because the summit sits on the La Cloche Silhouette backpacking route and is known for wide panoramic views (including 360° from the top).
