Slide Lake Loop
Slide Lake Loop is a 13.34 km loop hike in Frontenac Provincial Park (Ontario, Canada), put together as the larger “Slide Lake Loop” circuit rather than the shorter “Small Slide Lake Loop.” The hike is known for rugged terrain and route difficulty driven by steep, rocky ridges and natural crossings rather than trail tread quality.
Expect Canadian Shield bedrock with exposed rock ridgelines, plus wet spots around ponds/marshy low areas where conditions can be sloppy after rain. The route character shifts between more open hardwood/bedrock sections and tighter, wetter terrain around Slide Lake and the adjacent lake system.
The loop is commonly approached as a backcountry day hike on the order of a half-day to full afternoon (about 3 to 5 hours reported time window), but it can extend for navigation and time on the more technical sections.
For access and overnight planning, the route is within Frontenac Provincial Park backcountry—overnight stays use campsites on the lakeshore—and a vehicle/day-use permit requirement is part of the trip setup. Insect pressure can be high in wetland sections, especially earlier in the summer season.
