Sol Duc River Trail is a long-distance hiking route in Olympic National Park that follows the Sol Duc River corridor through old-growth Douglas-fir/temperate rainforest terrain before climbing out toward the ridge network above Sol Duc Park and Heart Lake.

Early on, the route stays on relatively easy tread along the river/valley, with multiple streams and side creeks entering the main drainage; the trail is built around repeated access to wet ground and seasonal water flow.

Midway, the character shifts from the river bottoms into steeper climbing toward higher meadows around Bridge Creek and Sol Duc Park, then up into the Heart Lake area, where the trail meets the higher ridge system.

The route continues to connect into the High Divide Trail junction above Heart Lake; from there, hikers typically plan either to turn around or extend the trip into the broader Seven Lakes Basin/High Divide network.

One common itinerary uses this trail to reach the High Divide junction from the Sol Duc area trailhead and treat it as a point-to-point segment within a larger Olympic backcountry day or multi-day plan.

Planning is generally centered on Olympic National Park backcountry rules for camping quotas/permits in the Sol Duc drainage, plus standard wilderness food-storage requirements for wildlife.
