Table Rock Trail

Table Rock Trail is a red-blazed, one-way 3.6-mile hike in Table Rock State Park that climbs steeply from the Nature Center up to the summit of Table Rock Mountain (3,124 ft). It’s known for a very rugged ascent through an open forest strewn with boulders and for a payoff of exposed rock outcrops near the top.

The route is steep for much of the climb and built around repeated hard uphill sections rather than long, gentle cruising. Expect a physically punishing day: the typical round-trip is in the 7–8 mile range and many hikers finish in roughly 4.5–5 hours.

Along the climb, you rise into Southern Appalachian vegetation—dominant oak and hickory with scattered pines and hemlock—before reaching the higher, more open granite terrain where views open up from the rock.

The trailhead experience is anchored at the Nature Center area, with the park requiring hikers to register before heading out and to be off trails before sunset. The park’s day-use admission applies, and camping overnight on the trail system isn’t permitted.

Historical trail-building is part of the trail’s character: the park trail system credits the CCC for construction work, and this trail is described as a rugged, steep route that ascends to the Table Rock summit over granite dome terrain.

If you’re planning the effort, it helps to think of it as a summit hike where most of the work happens on the way up—then you return the same way or link to other park trails if you want a longer day.
