The Yurt at Solitude

The Yurt at Solitude is an on-mountain yurt dining experience at Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The evening starts with a guided snowshoe tour through a moonlit forest; from there you dine on a prix fixe, four-course meal around an outdoor fire cauldron, with the meal continuing inside the yurt. Reservations are required.

Dining runs Thursday–Sunday, December 11 through April 5, plus Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Presidents’ Day, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The yurt experience takes about 3½ to 4 hours, starting in Solitude Village at 6:00 PM and generally returning by about 9:30 PM; it seats four tables with six guests each, and the staff can combine parties when needed.

The experience includes the snowshoe tour and the multi-course meal, with tax included. Guests must be 14 or older; there is no running water at the yurt and portable restrooms are available outside. You may bring your own bottle of wine with a $20 corkage fee; the price does not include corkage fees, gratuity, soft drinks, and additional alcohol.

Getting there is part of the deal: guests arrive via the guided snowshoe tour (about ½ mile). Meet under the clock tower in Solitude Village, Entry 2, off Big Cottonwood Canyon Road, and arrive dressed for snow—warm layers and waterproof boots are recommended. Motorized transport to The Yurt is available for guests who do not want to take the snowshoe tour, with advance contact.
