Thorsborne Trail

Thorsborne Trail is a 32 km, point-to-point multi-day bushwalking route on Hinchinbrook Island, running along the east coast of Hinchinbrook Island National Park in Queensland. It’s designated as a Long-Distance Walk Trail and is typically done as a 4-day trip (4 days / 3 nights).

The standard direction is north to south: Ramsay Bay (north trailhead) to George Point (southern exit). The trailhead access relies on private ferry/boat transfers to drop you at Ramsay Bay and pick you up at the end at George Point, with departures from nearby mainland ports (Cardwell or Lucinda).

Terrain is rugged and remote, and the walking is not graded or hardened. Expect unformed, uneven country with steep and rough sections—carry all your own food and gear, and plan for days of several hours walking rather than “day-hike” pacing.

Wet season conditions change the route character: in summer, wet weather can make creek crossings more difficult, so after rain or during high flow you need to be ready for slower travel and extra uncertainty around water crossings. The common season to aim for is after the wet season, in the cooler months.

Camping and route facilities are based around wilderness campsites rather than huts. A maximum of 40 hikers per day are permitted along the track, so bookings and permits need to be arranged well ahead of time to secure places on the trail and campsites.

Several named highlights anchor the route’s camping and water-access points, including Zoe Falls / the nearby swimming area (often paired with the “Infinity Pool” reference) and Mulligan Falls, plus coastal camps around Zoe Bay and Nina Bay. Water is a key logistics constraint: the trail has hazards that include lack of water, and creek/flow conditions affect how reliably you can replenish.
