Tom Moore Canyon Trail #708
Tom Moore Canyon Trail #708 is a 13.4-mile one-way hike that links Forest Road 150 (North Star Road) to the East Fork of the Gila River, ending at private property. Along the way it connects with Link Trail #713 and Middle Mesa Trail #716. The trail is entirely within the Gila Wilderness.
From Tom Moore Trailhead (on the west side of Forest Road 150), Trail #708 heads east for about 0.8 mile to the Gila Wilderness boundary. It then generally tracks the bottom of Tom Moore Canyon for roughly 6 miles up to its intersection with Link Trail #713.
After you meet Link Trail #713, Trail #708 turns south and climbs out of the drainage onto Tom Moore Mesa toward Rolling Tank, where it intersects Middle Mesa Trail #716. From there, the route heads southwest across a mesa and drops into the East Fork of the Gila River via steep switchbacks at the river’s confluence with Corral Canyon.
Downstream from the confluence, Trail #708 continues for about two more miles before ending at private property. Water isn’t reliably available along the route, and the trail is designated for non-motorized and non-mechanized use. The trailhead itself is a livestock-accessible location (no equestrian facilities), and camping isn’t allowed in the trailhead parking areas.
