Trail to Nar-Phu

Trail to Nar-Phu is a long-distance hiking route in Nepal’s Annapurna region that branches off the Annapurna Circuit near Koto and heads into the Nar and Phu valley area toward Phu Village and then Nar Village. The mapping shows a single continuous route line for the track, with a ground surface and hiking walking trail.

From Koto the route climbs from the lower valleys into higher terrain, transitioning from forested country into more exposed, rocky, high-altitude landscapes as it approaches Meta and then Phu Village (with Phu Village sitting around the 4,000 m class). The route then continues onward to Nar Village, with the Nar side accessible via the Nar Phedi approach.

A key high point along this corridor is Kang La Pass (about 5,320–5,330 m), reached as an option on the Nar–Phu itinerary before linking back toward the wider Annapurna Circuit at Ngawal. Expect sustained altitude work and thinner air—this is why the route is tagged hard/strenuous for long-distance trekking.

This is a restricted-area style trek in the Nar–Phu valley sector: solo travel isn’t permitted, and entries require the relevant restricted-area permit(s) in addition to conservation-area permissions. The practical consequence is that you typically plan around a licensed guide/registered agency framework and group requirements.

In the Nar–Phu valley, the route is built around Tibetan-influenced village culture in Nar and Phu, with monasteries and gompas part of the standard experience on the itinerary. The trail is also described as relatively less crowded than the main Annapurna Circuit, supporting a more isolated feel once you move off the base circuit track.

The route is surfaced/recorded as ground trail, and visibility is generally noted as good in the mapped trail data. As a high-mountain, long-distance itinerary, it’s best treated as a multi-day undertaking with acclimatization time and high-altitude logistics rather than a day-hike.
