Trap Line Cabin
Route Details
Trap Line Cabin is a heritage camping option at Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, set up for a trapper-style stay rather than a conventional backcountry hut. It’s a small cabin experience that sleeps 6 people and includes sleeping accommodation in a double pull-out bed plus 4 sleeping mats in the loft, along with an outdoor setup for cooking and meals (fire pit, picnic table, and an outdoor grill).
The cabin package includes cookware and utensils plus a mini fridge, an induction burner, a microwave, and lighting; charcoal is provided for the outdoor grill. For camping logistics and rules, the site uses scheduled check-in and check-out times, requires that you bring bedding/sleeping bags plus food and containers, and sets campground regulations on cleanliness, quiet hours, and permitted fire use (fires only in designated fire pits).
Bookings are handled through Parks Canada’s reservation system for camping at the historic site; the hut/cabin stay is part of the heritage camping options at this location. Prepare for an experience that fits the reservation campground model: no internet/Wi-Fi access is provided, you’ll need a camping permit/entry process for the historic site, and there’s a limit on the maximum stay (14 nights) before re-registering is needed.
