Undercliff Trail (Yellow)
Undercliff Trail (Yellow) is a long-distance, yellow-blazed hiking route in the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve near Cold Spring, NY. It’s mapped as a short hiking loop when you pair it with the nearby Washburn (White) and Cornish (Blue) trails.
Expect a moderately challenging hike profile with sustained climbing on the route network it connects into, plus multiple viewpoint locations along the way. The overall effort is typically in the “moderate to challenging” range rather than an easy amble.
Typical staging uses one of the Hudson Highlands trailheads near Nelsonville (including the Secor Street area) or the Washburn Trailhead on Route 9D near Little Stony Point. From there, the Undercliff segment is used as either part of a longer loop or as the return/direction switch that links to the other color-blazed trails.
On the ground, the route is flagged and built for foot traffic (horse/bicycle not supported), and it’s categorized with a ground surface. The trail mapping also uses an overall mountain-hiking classification (SAC mountain hiking scale).
If you’re hiking in shoulder seasons or spring, plan for mud: conditions can get wet enough to slow traction. Solid waterproof boots are a practical choice.
Common loop formats put Undercliff (Yellow) in the mix for a Bull Hill–area circuit, with Undercliff used as a connector between the Washburn and Cornish trails (or between Undercliff and the Nelsonville approach), depending on which loop you choose.
