Upper Coos Recreational Rail Trail

Upper Coos Recreational Rail Trail is a long-distance, rail-trail hike that runs along the Connecticut River corridor between Colebrook, NH and Beecher Falls, VT near the Canadian border (often also labeled as the Colebrook River Walk).

Expect a very low-slung, flat walk over former rail bed tread, typically described as packed earth/dirt plus gravel/crushed stone/cinder/sand; it’s a straightforward line to cover out-and-back or as a point-to-point shuttle trip.

Route length is commonly given as about 8.5 to 10 miles one-way, with total climbing typically described as very minor (roughly 123–223 feet total gain).

The corridor is shared use. Beyond hiking, it’s used by biking and winter users such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing; it’s also associated with ATV/snowmobile use in winter and other non-hiking traffic, so plan on encounters and follow posted rules where applicable.

Parking is typically described in Colebrook and Beecher Falls, with Colebrook access noted along NH-26 near Transfer Street and Gould Street, and Beecher Falls access along East Street off of VT-253.
