Vallee des Fantomes Trail

Vallee des Fantomes Trail is a day hike in Parc national des Monts-Valin near Saint-Fulgence, Quebec. The route climbs from a forested start up toward Pic Dubuc, culminating at 984 m.

The signature feature is the winter landscape: heavy, wind-blocking snow accumulates on firs, burying them so they form “ghostly” shapes in the Valley of Ghosts.

Length for the commonly described outing is about 5–7.1 km round-trip, with roughly 320–350 m of elevation gain and a typical hiking time around 2 to 3.5 hours.

The route is managed as a longer day excursion (hike type: day_hike) rather than a short stroll; with the ascent, it stays in the moderate / intermediate range for fitness and terrain comfort in snow season.

Pic Dubuc is the high point of the Monts-Valin area at 984 m and is the main payoff above the boreal forest. From the summit, the route provides broad 360-degree perspective over the Saguenay lowlands when conditions allow.

On the snowiest winter periods, access is restricted compared with summer hiking; it’s reached via a tracked shuttle service (“snowcat”) from the park’s Discovery and Service Center rather than by car to the trailhead.
