Via Sett

Via Sett is a long-distance hiking route linking Chur, Switzerland with Chiavenna, Italy across several distinct regions. It follows a historic trans-alpine trade line in an overland “Septimer” corridor and is commonly split into multi-day stages.

For the through-hike, plan on about 110 km total with roughly 4,500 m of ascent and 4,800 m of descent. Typical schedules run 5 to 6 daily stages (some itineraries use 6 or 7), depending on how much distance you cover each day.

The route is best from mid-June to mid-October. That window matters because sections and mountain passes are weather-sensitive and early/late shoulder seasons can bring poor conditions.

On the eastern/upper Engadin–Alps approach, the route passes through the Lenzerheide area and continues toward Tiefencastel. It enters Parc Ela, with the approach described around the Mistail church and the Tiefencastel area.

Later stages shift toward Surses and the Bregaglia side of the pass corridor. The route uses the Septimer Pass crossing as a core historic element, then continues down toward Casaccia and onward to Vicosoprano and Chiavenna.

The specific route leg at Savognin is described as a long, high-country day in the heart of Parc Ela, starting at Savognin and going toward Bivio. It includes an ascent up the Septimer Pass area and then a steeper descent toward Casaccia before continuing onward.
