Via Spadlatscha
Via Spadlatscha is a classic alpine hike in Graubünden, Switzerland, running up the Val Spadlatscha from Filisur to Chamona d'Ela CAS (a hut at 2,252 m). It’s a straightforward “easy but long” day effort built around sustained climbing through valley terrain.
Start in Filisur (1,080 m). From there the route drops to the Albula Bridge area (998 m) and then climbs into the Rözenwald, continuing via Sela (1,427 m) and into the Val Spadlatscha.
Once in the valley, you follow the approach along the bottom of Val Spadlatscha past Alp Prosot and onward to Pradatsch (2,005 m). This section keeps you on valley travel before the final rise to the hut under Pass d'Elà.
The hut is Chamona d'Ela CAS at 2,252 m, with the route designed for a one-way ascent day (about 4 hours) and an easy return option using the same route.
The trip profile fits SAC hiking scale T2 on the way up: not technical, but steady. Total ascent is about 1,270 m, with the descent back toward Filisur comparatively small (around 100 m over the day’s measured profile).
On the descent from Ela hut through Val Spadlatscha, this segment is used as part of the Walserweg long-distance trail (segment 12, marked with number 35), so route markings may align with that system on the way back.
