Wilson Trail Section 7

Wilson Trail Section 7 (衛奕信徑第7段 / 衛徑7段) is a long-distance, point-to-point walk in Hong Kong’s New Territories, starting at the Main Dam of Shing Mun Reservoir and finishing at Yuen Tun Ha (San Uk Ka). Typical expectations are about 10.1–10.4 km and roughly 3.5–4 hours of walking time.

Route character is mostly reservoir-side pathwork and forest tracks before you climb to Lead Mine Pass; after the pass it turns into a descent with stone steps and dirt paths down toward Wun Yiu Road near San Uk Ka.

Early on, the trail runs along the eastern side of Shing Mun Reservoir, sharing segments with the Shing Mun Reservoir Jogging Trail; expect dirt paths along shaded stretches and small stream/valley crossings rather than open-country hiking.

The main “work” comes on the approach to Lead Mine Pass, where the route gradually ascends a concrete road up to the pass—also a junction area where Wilson Trail meets MacLehose Trail Section 8.

Downhill routing after Lead Mine Pass leads you onto stone steps and a mix of rocky bits and dirt trails, eventually bringing you to Wun Yiu Road for the final walk-out toward San Uk Ka.

For planning, it’s a long day for the legs even if the terrain is not technical: pack water (at least ~2 L is a sensible baseline), bring snacks, and consider trekking poles to steady the steps on the descent.

If rain makes the area slick, treat the stone-step descent as the most condition-sensitive part of the route: scout the step sections closely before committing and be ready to slow down on wet days.
