Wyoming Range Trail - Section K

Wyoming Range Trail – Section K is a 5.5-mile out-and-back day hike in the Bridger-Teton National Forest area near Daniel, Wyoming (trailhead at McDougal Gap / South Piney Creek). The route is labeled TR 2048K and uses ground tread.

This segment is part of the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail (WRNRT) and is managed within the National Recreation Trail system. It’s also referred to as a short, specific WRNRT member route within the larger 70-mile WRNRT network.

The hiking profile is moderate to challenging, with about 1,335 feet of elevation gain for the out-and-back distance. Expect sustained climbing/descending rather than a flat walk.

Terrain is generally on a clear, established footpath that runs through high-elevation country. The segment is described as going through subalpine meadows where wildflowers can be a highlight.

Because it sits high in the Wyoming Range, conditions vary by season and snow can linger at lower elevations into mid-May; peak wildflower timing is usually July and August. If you hike later in the year, use blaze orange when hunting is active.

Plan for limited connectivity on this part of the WRNRT: cell service can be spotty and the trail is not always marked everywhere, so navigation skills matter even for a short section. Dogs are allowed, with leashing requirements in designated wildlife areas possible.
