Blåtinden

A wonderful peak with great, low stress skiing and incredible views across the southern part of the Lyngen Peninsula. A brilliant ski tour with truly epic views across the fjords and mountains to the south of Lyngen, this is a fantastic ski tour. It is known as the "Sleeping Soldier" because the locals believe that is what it looks like when viewed from the south. We'll let you decide whether you agree but it's certainly a very aesthetic mountain. Start your ascent by climbing a broad, tree-lined ridge which has a clear track up it. At the top of the ridge you find yourself in a little valley. Follow this on the lefthand side and then exit it leftwards and cross some almost flat terrain, heading north towards the upper section of the mountain, which is much steeper than the lower part. Enter the spectacular bowl immediately south of Blåtinden and skin up this before heading out right onto the broad and truly spectacular south-east ridge. Follow this, soaking in the massive views, all the way to the summit. There is a small building on the summit and a plateau surrounding it. The whole situation is incredibly picturesque and it is thoroughly enjoyable to sit and admire the view for an hour or more! When you do eventually begin to ski down simply follow the way you came up and head off left or right if you see an appealing looking pitch. The views all the way down are truly spectacular and this peak offers the quintessential Lyngen experience of sea and snow. The final ridge down to the car is fast, playful and a suitably fun end to a fabulous day. Written by Charlie Boscoe

Langdaltinden (928m)

A hidden pearl for an afternoon tour which offers great skiing "Langdaltinden" is one of many fine ski mountains on Breivikeidet. "Langdaltinden" is approached without any approach march and offers several alternatives for the descent. "Langdaltinden" lies west of the ferry dock at "Breivikeidet". From Tromsø, drive towards "Ramfjord", take a left at the intersection at "Fagernes" and follow signs for "Breivikeidet". You can easily find parking at the intersection towards "Sjursnes", but if you find any parking spots before you come to the intersection - that would be the optimal choice. The start of the tour is about half a kilometer in flat terrain before you begin to ascend the eastern side of the "Finnheimelva". The first approximately 200 altitude meters through the forest are characterized by relatively dense thickets, before it opens up at around 300 meters above sea level. The route continues along the "Finnheimelva" to about 550 meters before turning east towards Langdalstinden's southern ridge. Up on the ridge there is a gentle ascent of barely 300 vertical meters to the top, and once on this final section you can start enjoying the view of the Lyngen Alps. At the top there is a small cairn and the view is great in all directions. Once skiing down you can descend into the cave where it's a little steeper at around 35 degrees (as the gpx file shows). Otherwise you descend the same way as you ascended down to "Finnheimelva". At this point you can ski on the west hand side of the river, where there are a little less thickets. Regardless of the choice of side of the river, you are plagued with a little scrub on the descent. Written by Gard Gauteplass

Henriksrinden Tomasjord

We crossed through the forest area, and when it got steep and tough, we put on our crampons. About two hundred meters higher, with a steep slope and quite icy snow, the guide, Morten, decided it was best to turn around. We crossed to a ridge to see the view. The descent...
