Kalsubai via Indore

Kalsubai via Indore is a long-distance hike to Kalsubai Peak (1,646 m) that takes the northern-ridge approach from Indore, working up to the summit and the Kalsubai Temple. It’s positioned as a less-crowded alternative to the standard Bari route.

Expect a steep, sustained ascent on rock and steps as you near the ridgeline. The route description for this line emphasizes trailwork that relies on steps carved directly into rock rather than iron ladders, making the climbing feel more like a technical stair climb as you gain height.

The hike is typically done as a round trip in the roughly 7–10 km range, with elevation gain around 1,000 m. Total time commonly lands around 6–8 hours depending on your start point and pace.

Logistically, the “base camp” for this approach is Indore, a small base village in Maharashtra used to stage the climb. From there, you commit to the ridge approach to reach the peak area and temple.

Seasonally, this route is commonly targeted in the monsoon months (June–August) for a lush, green trek, and in September–October for flower season. Night treks are also a common way people schedule the summit, aligning the climb for early-morning arrival.

At the top, plan on reaching the Kalsubai Temple area on the peak, then use the summit window for the broader Kalsubai / Sahyadri surroundings view once you’re up on the ridge and near the temple.
