Via Muot da Rubi
Via Muot da Rubi is the long-distance hiking route up to Kistenstöckli / Muot da Rubi (2748 m), a flat-topped mountain reached from the valley of Flem. The route is built around the approach to Bifertenhütte and then a steep, exposed push to the high summit area with cairns on the plateau.
The standard approach runs Breil/Brigels via Rubi Sut and Rubi Sura to Bifertenhütte. After reaching the hut (2482 m), the route continues to the foot of Kistenstöckli and then scrambles up steps on the north-west face to the summit.
The ascent difficulty is in the T4 alpine hiking category: steep rocky steps, exposure on key passages, and rope/chain-assisted terrain. Some climbing skill is required for the final approach to the flat, exposed summit towers.
From the summit, the descent comes back the way you came initially, but with variations through Rubi Sura and Alp Quader back toward Brigels. One cited timing set for the normal route is ~4 hours up and ~3 hours down, with about 1450 m of ascent/descent.
On the final stretch (particularly the northern-slope sections), snow can linger and early fall conditions can turn icy; plan gear and timing accordingly if conditions are marginal.
The route is not suitable for hikers with a fear of heights, since the key terrain includes exposed sections and engineered aids (chains/ropes) rather than just easy paths.
