Wilson Trail Section 9

Wilson Trail Section 9 (衛奕信徑第九段 / 衛徑9段) is a long-distance, difficult hike in Hong Kong’s Pat Sin Leng Country Park, mapped through footway segments with no cycling route association. The section is designed as a self-contained leg within the Wilson Trail: it typically runs from Cloudy Hill toward the Pat Sin Leng ridgeline area and finishes at Tai Mei Tuk, where the trail network continues into Section 10.

Plan for a demanding day. Typical reported length is about 10–10.6 km with an estimated time around 4.5–6 hours, reflecting extended elevation gain and loss rather than a quick connector between trailheads.

Terrain is steep and intentionally “trail-focused”: expect a mix of steep climbs, eroded dirt tracks and rocky sections, and highly exposed ridgelines with little tree cover. Long stretches can feel like they are continuously up-and-down, which is part of why this section is commonly treated as a rite-of-passage hike for experienced hikers.

The main character of the route is its Pat Sin Leng ridge traversing—often framed around the “Ridge of Eight Immortals” peaks (including features such as Hok Tau Reservoir, Ping Fung Shan, Wong Leng, and then the Pat Sin Leng summits toward the end of the section). This leg repeatedly climbs toward individual peaks and then drops back down to link to the next high point.

Logistics favor an early start and strong hydration planning. The route is described as remote and largely unshaded, so bring more than the usual water (a common guidance is over 2 litres per person) and carry sun protection for exposed sections.

From the ridge toward the finish, the trail includes steep descents and stair-like sections that require steady footing; the Hong Kong end of the route typically places you back at Tai Mei Tuk, a practical recovery stop before moving on to the following section.
