Abri de la Pépinière
Abri de la Pépinière is a non-staffed shelter in the Vosges near Barembach/Schirmeck, used by backcountry hikers for an emergency night or a stopover. It’s run by the Mairie de Barembach and access is subject to authorization from the town hall.
Inside, there’s a chimney and a wood-burning stove, plus a barbecue placed right in front of the shelter. There’s no drinking water at the shelter itself; the nearest water point is Fontaine Léopold about 500 m away along the path toward Schirmeck.
Use is seasonally managed: from June 1 to August 31 it’s reserved for Barembach residents, with a paid weekend rental setup. Even during the rental period, the tenant is required to welcome passing hikers if needed.
