Bach 114
Bach 114 is a Department of Conservation-managed bach at Islington Bay on Rangitoto Island, used as an overnight rental backcountry cabin. It’s an off-grid stay and serves as a simple base for island time on a pest-free volcanic island administered under Hauraki Gulf rules.
The bach is set up with off-grid basics such as solar-powered lighting, a gas cooker, a solar-powered chilly bin, and a cassette-style chemical toilet, and it sleeps up to seven people. For access, you can use the public ferry to Rangitoto Wharf followed by a walk, or reach Islington Bay by private boat or kayak.
Island rules include a total fire ban on Rangitoto Island, no camping, and no dogs. Bring your own food and water—there are no shops on the island—and use pest-biosecurity procedures (check, clean, and seal gear) to avoid bringing pests, soil, or seeds.
