Bivacco Speranza
Bivacco Speranza is an unstaffed alpine bivouac/shelter near Lago della Vacca and the Colle del Sabbion in the Maritime Alps. It is kept open year-round for first-come, first-served use, with capacity for up to 9 people (mattresses/blankets provided in the shelter).
The bivouac is equipped with a small table, benches, and a limited supply of water in bottles; there is no running water nearby other than the Lago della Vacca area. It does not have toilets or a stove; bring your own water treatment and a sleeping bag. Use is free, but you should be ready to share the space in wet/adverse weather and leave the shelter clean for the next party.
The facility is a renovated Italian “petite caserne” under the Col du Sabion, opened on 13 August 2017. In rainy conditions, keep the entrance shutters closed to prevent water infiltration inside.
